Robert Neill Quinn, a resident of Duncan, entered into rest late Friday evening, June 4, 2021, in Scottsdale. Bob was 80.
Robert Neill Quinn, (Bob) was born on August 16, 1940 to McKellip O’Neill Quinn and Evelyn Ruth O’Neal Quinn in Virden, New Mexico. He was the second son in the family of seven children. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1958 alongside 25 of his classmates.
Bob met Jackie Bancroft at the Greenlee County Fair in the summer of 1954. They dated for five years and married on June 4, 1959. Their union welcomed a son, Steven Wayne in 1960 and a daughter, Catherine Ruth in 1965.
Bob worked with Kennecott Copper Co. in Ray, AZ and ASAR in Tucson, AZ as a laborer. While working in in those mines he was able to practice and improve the welding skills he had learned in High School. In 1965 he went to work at Phelps Dodge Corporation in Morenci, AZ as a welder and later as the Welding Shop foreman until the lay-offs in 1982.
In 1983 Bob and Kenneth Blackman opened a machine shop in Silver City, New Mexico. The business was well known by the locals in Silver City and even the larger contractors in New Mexico as a shop that could fix about anything at a reasonable price. Always wanting to be in Duncan after a few years he sold his share of the business and went to work for the Arizona Department of Transportation as a Highway Tech and Lead Man until he retired in 2000.
Bob enjoyed camping and hunting for deer and elk with his friends and family. He was a great camp cook and in his later years preferred to sit around the campfire and cook for those that went out to hunt.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Clifton BPOE 1174 where he participated in the trail rides, picnics, and steak fries on a regular basis. He was also a 3rd Degree Free Mason in the Masonic Lodge in Clifton.
He served his community as a volunteer fireman in Morenci and as secretary with the Duncan Fire District. Bob was instrumental in helping to build the new fire house in Duncan which also houses the Emergency Services for the community.
He is survived by: his sister, Shirley Randall; wife, Jackie; son, Steven (wife-Stacey); daughter, Cathy (husband-Don; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
