Nellie Marquez

Nellie Gutierrez Marquez, of Tucson and formerly of Clifton, went to the Lord on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at the San Nicolas Assisted Living Facility in Tucson with her family by her side. She was 98.

Nellie was born in Clifton, Arizona, on April 8, 1923, to Magdaleno and Cruz Gutierrez. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Fred Garcia Marquez.

She is survived by: her son, Edmund (Priscilla); daughter, Priscilla Altuna (Alfred); goddaughter, Laura Gonzalez; her beloved grandchildren, Lea Marquez Peterson (Dan), Edmund Marquez (Wendy), Gregory Altuna (Ashley), Steven Altuna (Sara), and Aileen Altuna; her great-grandchildren are, Emma and Luke Peterson, Alyssa and Diego Marquez, Georgia and Gibson Altuna, and Elliott, Ian, and Oliver Altuna.

Nellie and her husband Fred owned and operated tortilla factories, barber shops, restaurants and lastly the AAA Insurance office in Safford.

We already miss her greatly but take comfort knowing that she is with her husband and all her siblings, singing up a storm in Heaven.

A Private Funeral Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at a later scheduled date.
