Martha Montoya

January 13, 1940 — March 1, 2022

Martha “Marty” Montoya  passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2022 in Clifton, Arizona. Martha was 82.

Marty was born in El Paso, Texas on January 13, 1940 to Antonio and Josephine Rivas.  She was the youngest of three daughters. The Rivas family moved to Clifton, Arizona in 1948 which is where Marty continued to reside until her passing .

Marty loved to cook, and the word “delicious” will forever conjure up fond,
wonderful memories of her cooking in the kitchen or sitting at the table listening to her favorite corridos. Marty wore many hats, often assuming the roles of confidant, coach, counselor and cheerleader for the Montoya family.

A fan of sports, Marty loved to watch a good Phoenix Suns game and was quite the athlete in her own right. Marty was not only a talented homemaker and seamstress, she was also known for her handyman skills around the house.  Her warmth and generosity was extended to all those who entered into her home. Whether she was preparing green chili burros for an upcoming elk hunt, outside shooting hoops with her grandsons, or rocking a baby to sleep, she was always present for her family. Her strong, quiet presence and the unconditional love she gave to other’s will be forever missed.

Marty was preceded in death by: her husband of fifty-two years, Paul Montoya; daughter, Martha Jean Montoya; parents, Antonio and Josephine Rivas; sister and brother in law, Mike and Rebecca Carrejo; nephew, Matthew Lujan and great grand daughter, Lily Mena.

Marty will best be remembered for being a selfless and dedicated wife and mother to her five children, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great- grandchildren, and three great-great-grand children. She was a beloved sister, wife and mother who devoted her life to loving and caring for those left in her charge.

Private family services for Martha will be conducted at a later date.
