Ramon Montez, Jr., of Safford, entered the eternities Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the Mount Graham Regional Medical Center. He was 66.
Known to many as Juno and to others as Taxi Ray, he was the owner of the General Liberty Shuttle Service and helped numerous community members arrive home safely. He, himself, has safely made it home.
Ramon was the second child born to Ramon, Sr., and Margie Montez. He was born in Tucson, Arizona, at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Ramon’s first 5 years of life was spent in Clifton, Arizona. His family them moved to Solomon to live. He graduated from 8th grade and then graduated from the Safford High School in 1973.
Ramon worked a short time in Morenci, Arizona. In about 1975 he moved to Seattle, then Spokane and Chehalis, Washington. It was there he met Rebecca Waltz. They decided to move to Safford, Arizona, in 2003.
Ramon is survived by: his wife, Rebecca Waltz; mother, Margie Montez; brothers, David (Linda), Pete (Sally), Aaron (Erin); sisters, Stella (Scott), Patricia (Paul), Debra (Joe). Ramon helped raise 7 children, 17 grandkids and 7 great-grandkids.
Family will receive friends Thursday, May 5, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the Vining Funeral Home.
A rosary and prayers will be offered Thursday evening, May 5, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., at the Vining Funeral Home by Vicki Quintero.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 6, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church by Rev. Nicodemus Shaghel.
