Jerry Phillips, of Safford, peacefully entered into rest July 3, 2022, at the Mount Graham Regional Medical Center. He was 86.
Jerry was born in Walters, Oklahoma on March 13, 1936. He was the eighth of 11 children born to Harvey and Della Phillips. He left Oklahoma as a baby with his family due to the dust bowl. They migrated west looking for work and found their way to the Gila Valley where they stayed for several years before the family moved on to California.
Jerry attended school in California through 10th grade when he decided to leave high school and pursue other interests. He joined the military in 1958 and served three years in the Army with 16 months of his service overseas. While in the military he earned his Graduation Equivalency Diploma (GED).
Eventually, Jerry made his way back to the Gila Valley and the surrounding area. Over the past 40+ years, he spent much of his time working on ranches and farms in the area. He was a fun-loving man who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, Harvey and Della Phillips; and most of his siblings, Ruby, Pearl, Opal, Dorothy, Betty, Freddy, Donald, David, Linda, and half-brother Skipper. He is survived by: his last living sibling, Colleen.
A graveside service for Jerry will be held Friday, July 15, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. in the Thatcher Cemetery.
