Esther C. Chacon

Esther C. Chacon, a longtime resident of Clifton, peacefully entered into eternal rest late in the evening of Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Tucson Medical Center Hospice Peppi's House, from causes incident to age. Esther was 91.

The daughter of Vicenta and Pedro Castaneda, wife of 56 years to Joe B. Chacon. Esther is survived by: her 3 children, Ida Barreras (Joe) of Safford, Joe Chacon (Millie) of Clifton, and Danny Chacon ( Lucille) of Tempe. Esther is also survived by: sisters, Tila Gregorian, Margie Montez, and Sally McGovern (Danny); 11 grandchildren, 30 great- grandchildren, and 9 great-great- grandchildren. She is preceded in death by: her parents; husband; brothers, Ernesto, Pedro Jr.; sisters, Herminia Montez and Raquel Montoya; and her grandson, Joe Michael Chacon.

On April 29, 2023 Esther was honered as the eldest member of the 4 remaining people born in Metcalf, Arizona; at 91 years old, by the Club Verde at their 106th Annual Baile.

Esther was also a member of the American Legion Auxillary, The Guadalupanas, The Red Hatters Social Club, as well as the Club Verde. Esther frequented the Senior Citizens Group because it was important to her to keep programs utilized, so the program remains available to those in need of its services. She attended the arts and crafts and yoga classes for this purpose as well. Being a patron of the towns businesses was important to her to keep businesses viable and successful. This also included self employed businesses to help them survive. Esther supported all fundraisers and benefits of our community and in Alpine where she spent her summers.

What best describes Esther was her love of family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren would say she was absolutely the best Nana that ever was. Esther supported them in all their endeavors. She traveled to watch them play sports, dance, graduations, and countless birthday parties. And foremost, she was the first to encourage that each of them followed her faith in God, receiving their sacraments of the Catholic faith.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Esther will be conducted Friday, May 26, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clifton, Arizona. Concluding services will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Friday, May 26, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. also at the church. A rosary and prayers will follow.
