Edward Gonzales

Edward Gonzales, or "Ed" to his family and friends, of Safford, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, February 22, 2023 with his family at his side. He was 53.

Ed was born May 22, 1969 in San Bernardino, California. He and his family moved to Arizona when Ed was very young. Raised in Morenci, he attended Morenci schools, playing center for the Morenci football team. After high school Ed worked construction most of his adult life, retiring early after becoming disabled. Ed spent his time with his family. He loved a good BBQ, getting the family together, usually on days when wrestling was on. He loved the mountains, going hunting with his brothers and nephews, fishing, camping, and watching the Cardinals play.

Edward was preceded in death by: his mother, Josephine Vega; his father, Jose Vega; and his brother, Robert Gonzales.

He is survived by: his son, Edward Brandon Gonzales Jr.; his brother, Phillip Gonzales; his sisters, JoAnn Martinez, Vira Newell, Rebecca Gonzales, Kathy Gonzales, and Patricia Gonzales; and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thanks to our extended family, including: Toni Vega, Eleanor Ochoa, Chana Ochoa, Desiree Ochoa, and Michael Ochoa for helping Ed at his time in need.

A Memorial Mass for Ed will be conducted Friday, March 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Safford.

A rosary and prayers will be offered on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., also at the church.
