Dennis Jay Martin, of Thatcher, Arizona, passed away Saturday November 5, 2022, following a short illness from Pancreatic cancer. He was 76 years old.
Dennis was born in Placerville, California, to James and Ethel Martin where he grew up. After high school, he served a church mission in France and Belgium. When he returned home, he met and married Mary Huber from Mesa, Arizona, and attended Arizona State University and Brigham Young University majoring in education. After graduation, he moved to Bowie, Arizona, where he taught and coached for two years. He then relocated to Thatcher and taught middle school and coached football and golf for many years. Dennis also coached football for Eastern Arizona College. He moved on to become the Principal at Thatcher Middle School and ended up in the administration office before retiring in 2010.
Dennis is survived by: his wife, Mary of 54 years; sons, Jeff, Rusty, Tad, Ryan, David, Greg and Brad; nineteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Dennis will be conducted Friday morning, November 11, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at the Thatcher Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Bishop Jeff Jorgensen of the Thatcher Second Ward. Concluding services will follow in the Thatcher Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, November 10, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Vining Funeral Home and Friday morning, November 11, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m., at the Thatcher Stake Center Relief Society Room of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
