Danny Haralson

Danny Keith Haralson, age 70 of Safford, Arizona, a local historian and columnist passed peacefully at home on March 18, 2019. He was born December 21, 1948, the third child of Chilton Heath Haralson and Grace Daley Haralson. Danny graduated from Safford High School in 1966. He then pursued and was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology from Arizona State University. Danny was the Radiology Department Director for Mt. Graham Community Hospital for 27 years. He also served on the Arizona Medical Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners and was well-respected in his field. After retiring, he devoted his time to writing and publishing books including family history. He also enjoyed sculpting and was instrumental in working with the Graham County Historical Society and the ongoing restoration of the historic Safford Theatre in downtown Safford. Danny is survived by: his wife, Vicki Rogers Haralson of Safford; sons, Ian Keith Haralson of Portland, Oregon and Devin Kyle Haralson of Ocean Beach, California; stepsons, Jamey Waite of Safford, Jeremy (Natalie) Waite of Thatcher, and Jonny Waite of Safford; stepdaughter, Sandee (Blane) Chassey of Sahuarita, Arizona; grandchildren, Madelyne, Brigham, and Brooks Waite and Miana Apodaca; also left to cherish his memory is his brother Farrell (Lea) Haralson of Bermuda Dunes, California; brothers-in-law, Dennis Poer of Hereford, AZ and Gary Rogers of Safford; sisters-in-law, Gayrene (Rick) Claridge of Central and Karen (Brian) Coppola of Safford; and numerous nieces and nephews. Danny was preceded in death by: his parents and sister, JoAnn Haralson Poer. Family and friends will remember Danny as an avid genealogist and local historian of lore. Danny’s quick wit and good deeds will be missed by many. Graveside services and a celebration of Danny's life will be conducted Saturday, March 23, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., at the Safford Union Cemetery. A luncheon for family and friends will follow immediately after services at the EAC Discovery Park Campus Circle D Ranch (Barn). Family will receive friends Saturday, March 23, 2019, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., at the Vining Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Danny's honor to, or membership into, the Graham County Historical Society located at 424 W. Main Street, Safford AZ 85546.
